Never Series by Monica Murphy

Never Tear Us Apart by Monica Murphy

The first novel in this darkly sexy contemporary series from bestselling author Monica Murphy kicks off an emotionally powerful two-part tale of forbidden love.

Crazy how eight years can disappear in an instant. One look at Katie Watts, and I’m a fifteen-year-old again—the one who risked everything to save a terrified girl from her twisted kidnapper. She’s grown-up now—beautiful, quiet, composed—and telling her story to the world. A story that involves me in more ways than you can imagine. She used to call me her guardian angel. Sure, I risked my life, but she was worth dying for.

I need to make contact with her. Just to ensure that she’s safe.

Somehow we reconnect. We become friends . . . but I want more. I want to make her mine. And she wants me too. Does she know who I am? Has she figured me out? Not yet. But she will. In the meantime, I need to make sure that whatever hold that animal had on her is gone.

So, yeah, I’m stealing these moments with her. Savoring them. Knowing, dreading, that she’ll soon find out who I really am. And everything will fall apart. All because of that twisted, perverted monster sitting on death row. Her kidnapper. A convicted serial killer.

My father.

Amanda's 5 Star Review:
Never Tear us Apart took me several weeks to read, not due to it's length, nor because it was not enthralling, but because the weight of the words within the story were heavy upon both mind and heart. The word fiction almost seemed to become an illusion as the cold chill of fear spread through my veins, anger churned in my stomach and my heart felt broken by sadness and horror with each turn of the page. Monica Murphy has not just created a story, she has lead my imagination on a frightening journey that left me clinging to a life raft of hope in dark turbulent seas of rib crushing emotion.

Katie was kidnapped as a young girl, her captor a cruel and horrible man who tortured her in the harshest of ways, leaving marks on her body that would heal, but scars on her memory and soul that would not. If it weren't for the man's son, Will, Katie would never have made it out of their alive; though both of them may still have life Katie and Will are forever haunted by what happened in the time Aaron Monroe stole from them. The people that surround Katie after, her family and therapists, try to help her, but only one Pierson truly knows what she went through and that person is Will. For a while the two exchange letters, providing the only form of comfort they can find, when all had once felt lost, but soon the letters and phone calls from Will stop and Katie is left to wonder what happened to her hero. It is many years later that Will finally comes back into her life but he is no longer the troubled teen she knew, he is a man she doesn't know at all.

What happened to Katie is truly terrifying, terrifying that some people are capable of becoming such monsters and heartbreaking that so many others are shadowed by their darkness; All of which Monica perfectly captured and portrayed in the main characters, as well as those surrounding them. I was in a constant state of shock and disgust reading what Aaron Monroe did to those poor children and at times felt physically sick. What Katie and her family went though during and afterwards broke my heart and had tears

REVIEW:
Where as it took me several weeks to read the brilliance of Never Tear us Apart, due to it being so emotionally draining, I sped through Never Let You Go within one sitting. I was desperate to know where the story between Katie and Will would lead, hoping that they would get their perfect ending; Monica Murphy did not disappoint.

The first book of this two part story delved into the kidnapping of Katherine Watts, at just twelve years of age she was taken from the amusement park where her family and her friend had been spending the day. From there, there was so much darkness upon the pages describing what she, her family and the kidnappers son, Will, went through. It also showed Katie trying to move on with her life after many years of living in fear and for a while it seemed like she might just be able to get some semblance of a balanced life back, until the ending when a shocking secret from Ethan is revealed.

Where as the first book mainly focused on the kidnapping and how the relationship was formed between Katie and Will, Never Let you go, gives the reader a more in depth look at their relationship and feelings that the two share in the present.  In moments where their relationship did look as though it might have a have a chance, it was magical to read, almost healing in a way, that after so many years of pain that they might just get their happy ending. However there was also struggle. The emotional conflict was nail bitingly stressful to read, so many obstacles kept popping up and seemed as though they might keep Will and Katie from ever being together. Including the meddling of the power hungry and detestable Lisa Swanson.

The reporter would not lay off in her hunt for a story and again I found myself trying to hold back my temper and not crush my poor kindle with my iron fist like grip; though the story is only fictional Monica has a way of writing that truly brings the characters to life, even if there are some I'd rather didn't exist for the other characters sakes, they still  added something more. The anger and annoyance that both Katie and Will felt towards Lisa throughout most of both books, was most definitely deserved, though the reporter did also help to show another side of the two Main Characters relationship, that gave readers more insight into both personalities.

The man who stole so much from Katie and Will was in Never Let you go as well, and his thoughts were so sickening to read, he is so vile and vicious, more evil than any other character I've read. Reading the reactions that two of his victims had towards him, was painfully sad and caused so much anger and hate at the same time. No one, not one single person as as kind and good hearted as Katie and Will deserves to go through what they did. Not just what Aaron Monroe did to them when they were children, but also his actions when they were adults.

I am so glad Katie and Will had each other, to help them cope with what they both went through, the ending they got is what they deserved after so much horror. Monica Murphy has written a story that'll crush readers in the most painful of ways, have them red in the face with anger and leave them feeling so much warmth with the love that is shared between Katie and Will.
