Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino

From the USA TODAY bestselling author of Sweet Thing and Nowhere But Here comes a love story about a Craigslist “missed connection” post that gives two people a second chance at love fifteen years after they were separated in New York City.

To the Green-eyed Lovebird:

We met fifteen years ago, almost to the day, when I moved my stuff into the NYU dorm room next to yours at Senior House.

You called us fast friends. I like to think it was more.

We lived on nothing but the excitement of finding ourselves through music (you were obsessed with Jeff Buckley), photography (I couldn’t stop taking pictures of you), hanging out in Washington Square Park, and all the weird things we did to make money. I learned more about myself that year than any other.

Yet, somehow, it all fell apart. We lost touch the summer after graduation when I went to South America to work for National Geographic. When I came back, you were gone. A part of me still wonders if I pushed you too hard after the wedding…

I didn’t see you again until a month ago. It was a Wednesday. You were rocking back on your heels, balancing on that thick yellow line that runs along the subway platform, waiting for the F train. I didn’t know it was you until it was too late, and then you were gone. Again. You said my name; I saw it on your lips. I tried to will the train to stop, just so I could say hello.

After seeing you, all of the youthful feelings and memories came flooding back to me, and now I’ve spent the better part of a month wondering what your life is like. I might be totally out of my mind, but would you like to get a drink with me and catch up on the last decade and a half?

Review:
I am a huge fan of Renee Carlino, she is my go-to author and she didn't fail to disappoint with this epic love story that left me crying, swooning and falling in love all at once.
Renee has a knack for sucking me into her books immediately and I believe Before We Were Strangers is her best work to date.

I have loved and recommended every book Renee has ever written, this lady can do no wrong in my opinion, but Before We Were Strangers has taken her to a whole new level. This book is incredible. A love story that had me hooked on the 2 characters, Matt and Grace, from the very start and I felt connected to them both immediately.

Matt and Grace's story starts as a missed opportunity, when Matt recognises Grace on a train, but has no time to get her attention. We then get taken back in time to when they first met and where their love story all began.

I loved that we learnt about their relationship from the very beginning. They were friends, best friends, and I felt that I really knew them both well, from the authors descriptive and heartfelt writing. I loved everything about them, their good habits and bad made me want to be their friend. I wanted to hang out with them, listen to music together and take silly photos together.

Before We Were Strangers takes us on the journey over the years of Matt and Grace's relationship, how they met, when they fell in love, and what lead us to the chance sighting on the train.

I could talk about this book on and on, but, in short, this book is one of the most beautiful love stories I've ever read. Believe everything you hear people saying about Before We Were Strangers and read this. I promise you will be better for it.
Bravo Renee Carlino
